Argentina’s legendary footballer and coach, Diego Maradona, died at the age of 60 due to cardiac arrest. This month, two weeks earlier he was discharged from the hospital after brain surgery. Maradona is among the world’s greatest footballers of all time. Maradona was a key player in making Argentina the world champion in 1986.
During his career, Maradona has played for the football clubs like Boca Juniors, Napoli and Barcelona. Across the world, he has a lot of fan following because of his magical game and the person himself. He also had been in controversies many times due to the addiction of drugs and alcohol. The Argentina Football Association has mourned with the statement saying, “We are mourned by the demise of our legend, you will always be in our hearts.” Maradona had scored 34 goals in 91 matches for his national team. He has played in four World Cups for Argentina.
Maradona was charismatic since childhood
Just at the small age of ten, he had started playing for local club Astrola Rosa. Later after two years, Los Cabolitas added him on board for a decent sum of money. Diego was determined to bring out his family from poverty. He had become known for his extraordinary game, but it was just the beginning for Diego. He started his professional career at the age of 15 as he joined Argentinosa Juniors where he scored 115 goals in 167 matches.
Diego’s record agreement with big football clubs
Famous club Boca Juniors saw him once. The club added him on board with a good price of £1 million. With blistering performance, next year Maradona was selected to the national team. In 1982, he got the opportunity to play his first World Cup but he managed to score only two goals in five matches. His team reached the semi-finals, but Maradona was convinced that his team also had the power to become champions.
Maradona single handily made Argentina champion
The hero of the 1986 World Cup was Diego Maradona, as he had mesmerized the entire world with his magical game and won the world cup for his country. He was given the captaincy of the team and he single-handedly made Argentina champion for the first time. Maradona had scored five goals and helped in scoring the other five goals. After that world cup, Maradona became the most popular man. He has taken his retirement from his active football career on his birthday in 1997.
